Boric Acid Granular Baits: Why 10% is Better Than 5%

Boric acid is highly effective against a broad spectrum of crawling pests and is an ideal active ingredient in granular and gel baits. That is because when used at the right concentrations, boric acid baits allow pests like ants and roaches to take the bait back to their colony to distribute it, thus killing the colony. Other crawling pests eat the bait and die. Boric acid baits can vary in formulations and the amount of boric acid they contain. Rockwell’s InTice 10 Perimeter Bait is the only 10% boric acid granular bait available. A 10% boric acid bait offers several advantages over baits formulated with 5% boric acid for outdoor applications including proven effectiveness, longer-lasting protection, and lower use rates.

1. Proven Effectiveness

A 10% boric acid granular bait is highly effective against crawling pests. Over the past 10 years, InTice 10 Perimeter Bait has been proven effective in laboratory testing and by millions of field applications by PMPs. It controls ants, cockroaches, crickets, earwigs, silverfish, millipedes, sowbugs, pillbugs, mole crickets, snails, and slugs. InTice 10 is non-repellent and does not chase pests away. In addition to 10% boric acid, InTice 10 contains a proprietary blend of premium food attractants including proteins, carbohydrates, and oils that are designed to attract and kill crawling pests. Ants eat the bait and carry it back to the nest where they share it with the colony, eliminating the source of the infestation. Other target pets will eat the bait and die.

2. Longer-lasting Effectiveness

A 10% boric acid granular bait provides longer-lasting effectiveness compared to a 5% boric acid bait. There are no weather restrictions when using InTice 10, which means it can be applied during rainy weather. The boric acid helps to protect the moisture-resistant granular bait from mold and mildew while also killing insects. The boric acid in InTice 10 will not break down from heat or UV light. However, over time, water exposure can cause boric acid to slowly leach from the granules. When exposed to rain, irrigation systems, or other sources of moisture, a 10% boric acid granule will maintain a higher concentration of boric acid compared to a 5% granule. This will help to preserve the effectiveness of the bait, providing longer-lasting results. When applied outdoors, InTice 10 remains effective for up to 3 months. When used indoors, a once-a-year treatment is typically all that is needed in these protected areas.

3. Lower Use Rates

A 10% boric acid granular bait also offers outstanding value with its low use rates. InTice 10 Perimeter Bait can be applied outdoors at a rate of only 1 lb per 1000 sq ft. Indoors, InTice 10 can be applied at a rate of 3 oz per 100 sq ft. This is half the rate of a 5% boric acid granular bait, making it is a more economical option. Using a 10% boric acid granular bait can save you time, money, and space on trucks.

When to Use InTice 10 Perimeter Bait

InTice 10 Perimeter Bait has no pyrethroid or neonic use restrictions and is suitable for green service programs. Because of its long-lasting effectiveness, it is ideal for quarterly perimeter treatments. It can provide residual protection for up to 90 days outdoors. InTice 10 is also mold and moisture resistant, so it will continue working even under difficult outdoor conditions. For a perimeter treatment, apply granules in a band 2-4 feet wide around the perimeter of the structure.

Granules can also be applied along the edges of sidewalks, driveways, and patios as well as under decks and in flowerbeds, ground cover vegetation, mulch beds, and gardens. InTice 10 works in the toughest conditions like multi-layered surfaces such as mulch beds, grass, and ground cover vegetation where insecticide spray applications may not reach the ground and therefore not be very effective. InTice 10 can also be used on turf except for in California.

InTice 10 Perimeter Bait can also be used indoors to control and prevent crawling pests. It will remain effective for a year or more, making it ideal for an annual bait treatment. Granules can be applied with a hand shaker or duster in attics, crawlspaces, unfinished basements, wall voids, and other areas that are inaccessible to children and pets. You can also place granules in tamper-resistant bait stations.

Granular borate baits are an effective solution against indoor and outdoor crawling pests. A 10% boric acid granular bait has advantages over a 5% bait. InTice 10’s high efficacy and long residual protection will help to reduce callbacks and ensure your customers are satisfied. Its effectiveness combined with its outstanding value makes InTice 10 an ideal solution for creating and maintaining an outdoor and indoor protective barrier around your customers’ homes.
