Controlling Filth Flies with EcoVia Fly Killer

Small and large filth flies are a persistent challenge for many commercial accounts. Small flies—red and dark-eyed fruit flies, phorid flies, and drain flies—are problematic in food service and processing areas and other accounts with chronic moisture and organic build-up. Large filth flies—houseflies and blow flies—can be a chronic pest where food, trash, or other organic debris is present.

Advantages of Using EcoVia Fly Killer

EcoVia Fly Killer offers a new approach to solving filth-fly problems and provides several advantages.

  • Quick Kill & Strong Repellency: EcoVia Fly Killer kills flies at the source. Third party research demonstrates that it quickly kills all life stages of small and large flies on contact. It also repels adult flies, helping to prevent them from laying eggs in ideal breeding areas. EcoVia Fly Killer kills odor-causing bacteria as well.
  • Green Zone Product: EcoVia Fly Killer contains naturally-occurring plant oils and is a FIFRA 25(b) exempt product. It has minimal label restrictions for use in food areas, drains, and outdoor impervious surfaces like dumpsters and pads. It is suitable for use in green service programs.
  • Broad Use Sites: EcoVia Fly Killer can be used indoors and outdoors. It can be applied wherever organic debris accumulates and where small and large flies are likely to feed and lay eggs.
  • Removes Organic Debris: EcoVia Fly Killer’s thickened formula coats the sides of drains. The included surfactant helps the product to penetrate the biofilm in drains and loosens grease and organic debris, assisting with clean up.
  • Multiple Application Methods: EcoVia Fly Killer can be applied to drains straight from the bottle. It can also be diluted 50/50 with water and sprayed, foamed, or mopped onto surfaces where organic build-up occurs.

Controlling Flies: A Two-Step Appoach

EcoVia Fly Killer can be used in conjunction with our InVade Bio Sanitation products for a kill and clean one-two punch.

Step 1: Treat Active Infestations with EcoVia Fly Killer

For drain applications, apply EcoVia Fly Killer around the edges of the drain, allowing the product to coat the drain. Apply 4 oz per drain to commercial floor drains and 1-2 oz per drain to standard sink, tub, and shower drains as well as beverage fountain drip trays. For garbage disposals, apply 2 oz of the product. After applying EcoVia Fly Killer, avoid using the drain for at least one hour. If possible, allow it to sit overnight. You can reapply the product as needed.

EcoVia Fly Killer can also be applied to infrequently used drains to help prevent flies and odors.  Pour 1-2 quarts of water into the drain, and then apply 1-2 oz of EcoVia Fly Killer. To keep the trap from drying out, you can apply 1-2 oz of vegetable or mineral oil. Do not flush with water after product application.

EcoVia Fly Killer can also be used in commercial kitchens in areas where organic debris accumulates such as cracks, crevices, under counters and equipment, and along baseboards. It can also be used in outdoor areas including near dumpsters, pads, and compactors. EcoVia Fly Killer can be sprayed or mopped onto surfaces. You can also apply EcoVia Fly Killer as a foam using a foam sprayer like the Foamer Simpson 5.0. A foaming agent, such as OutLAST Pro, can be used for thicker, long-lasting foam. When spraying, mopping, or foaming, dilute the product 50/50 with water.

Step 2: Eliminate Conductive Conditions with InVade Bio Sanitation Products

Good sanitation will help to eliminate ideal breeding areas for flies, helping to prevent future infestations. Our InVade Bio Sanitation products are the ultimate green cleaners that work effectively in areas prone to organic build-up and chronic moisture. They contain powerful microbes that actually digest organic debris, and the citrus oil adds additional cleaning power to help eliminate odors.

  • InVade Bio Drain: For drain maintenance where chronic organic debris is present, our InVade Bio Drain can be used. The thickened probiotic gel drain cleaner clings to the side of drains, which enhances the digestion of scum and elimination of odors.
  • InVade Bio Foam: Our InVade Bio Foam is the single most effective product for eliminating organic build-up and odors in commercial kitchens. Its super concentrated foaming formula is designed to coat areas with organic build-up, providing microbes longer contact time. To apply, use with the Foamer Simpson pump-up sprayer or a power foamer.
  • Hot Spot+: Bio Foam in a can. It delivers 4-way action with fast-acting enzymes, premium microbes, powerful citrus oil, and odor neutralization technology.
  • InVade Bio Bullets: The InVade Bio Bullets can be used to reduce sludge, fats, oils, and grease build-up in grease traps and drains. The solid blocks contain high concentrations of powerful microbes. They slowly dissolve and release microbes as water runs over them.

Small and large filth flies can be worrisome in commercial kitchens and food processing areas. By executing a two-step approach, you can ensure active infestations and potential food sources and breeding sites are eliminated. Whether you need reliable and effective pest control products or you want to implement a bio sanitation program, Rockwell Labs has you covered.
